Clinical Trials
Copeptin in Osmoregulation and Stress Assessment
Sodium imbalance is common and an adverse prognostic factor in hospitalized patients. However, identifying the causes of sodium imbalance is challenging in clinical practice. Levels of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) are elevated in patients with stroke correlating with disease severity and stress level; however, its measurement is cumbersome.
Delaying Sexual Activity in Children
Given the early age of sexual initiation among urban minority youth, interventions aimed at reducing sexual initiation and risky sexual behavior related to HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) should begin prior to entry into middle school. These interventions should support both students and their parents through the transition to early adolescence. In collaboration with the New York City Public Schools, this study is designed to evaluate strategies to prevent early sexual initiation and its precursors among academically at-risk urban minority boys and girls.
Diabetes in Cardiac Rehabilitation
The aim of the DARE study is to see whether strict glycemic control during cardiac rehabilitation may ameliorate the improvement of exercise capacities (VO2 peak, peak workload, ventilatory threshold)in patients with type 2 diabetes with coronary artery disease.
Effect of Antidepressive Treatment by Escitalopram
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of an antidepressive medication (Escitalopram), started preoperatively and given during 6 months, on 6-month and 1 year post-operative morbidity and mortality after coronary artery bypass grafting.
Electroencephalography and Deep Brain Stimulation
Patients with epilepsy undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS) have electroencephalograms (EEGs) recorded before and during their stimulation treatment. Subsequently we will be using computer-assisted analysis of the digitally-recorded EEG signals to assess the effects of DBS on the brain-wave frequency content and any abnormal seizure-like patterns that may be present.
